_Catherine Conway
Founder, Unpackaged

Picture

Turning traditional retail on its head, Unpackaged asks consumers to bring and refill their own packaging. Following a social enterprise grant, the idea was tested on a variety of market stalls before opening the first shop in November 2007. The shop in North London sells a wide range of organic food & drink, as well as environmentally friendly household products & toiletries - all refillable.

A firm believer in social enterprise as a means to effect change, Catherine hopes to expand the concept in other locations so that everyone can have a local Unpackaged selling healthy, affordable, natural food and household necessities without any unnecessary and wasteful packaging.

Mike Elliott
Business Development Director, Martek Food Systems

Picture
British born and bred, Mike recently returned from the United States after sixteen years, having set up and run Martek’s North American operations.  During that time, Mike witnessed first-hand the explosive growth in bulk merchandising of everything from coffee beans to grains and cereals.

Mike now heads up Martek Food Systems, a new business promoting bulk merchandising across various market sectors in the UK and Ireland.  Offering industry-leading self-dispensing bins and custom displays, his mission is to encourage major retailers and wholesale suppliers to provide a range of products in bulk, thereby reducing both packaging and food waste, as well as increasing efficiency in distribution.

Marina Jankovick
Founder, Sfuso Wine

Marina Jankovic came from a film production background to become one of the directors of Sfuso Wine, a specialist wine company that deals with 'sfuso', or loose wine, sourced directly from the grower.

Sfuso is guided by the belief that wine should and can be a force for good throughout all stages of its production, benefitting the vine-grower, the drinker and the planet. By bringing some of Italy's finest 'sfuso' over by train in loose form or in boxes, they eliminate the need for glass and unnecessary fuel.  This makes them one of the country's most ethically-minded alcohol brands. And the wine itself is highly drinkable.
